Movin' on Up

For Mother's Day this year I am getting an awesome gift....

That's right...a house!

No, this is not the short sale we had the offer on. Here is the story of how we came to buy this house:

Last year in February Santiago and I thought that we were ready to look at houses. We went out with our realtor and walked through a house that was in the middle of renovation. As we were leaving, we saw that there was another house for sale two houses down. It was out of our price range, but wanted to check it out for fun. When we walked inside, right away I loved it. As I looked at the pictures on the wall...the people in it looked familiar. I then realized that it was the "B's" home...an older couple that are in our ward. As we left, I was sad that we couldn't afford their home. Well...they weren't able to sell it, and we ended up realizing that we couldn't buy a house yet.

So fast forward to this year. As we started thinking about buying again, the "B's" home was constantly in my mind. It is down the street from our apt...so we always would drive by it...and I would always envision us living in it. We thought about waiting till the summer to buy a house, and we wondered if the "B's" would put it up for sell again. Santiago and I talked about maybe asking them if they would sell it to us, but we couldn't afford what they had listed last year. We ended up being able to buy a house much sooner than expected, and we had planned on seeing a lender to get pre-approved on a Wednesday. Well, that Tues, guess who happended to call me. Sis. "B" called me about something church related, and as we were about to end the call, I worked up the nerve to ask her about her house. I told her how much we could afford, and she said it was too low for them.

The next day, my mom came over to watch the boys so that I could meet Santiago at the bank. Just as I finished telling her about the "B's" home, Sis. "B" called me back and said they would sell us their home, but they wanted to find something out in Utah first. The problem was, they didn't want us to see their house until they found something to buy (dumb, I know). That weekend is when we saw the short sale and put our offer on it. I told Sis "B" sorry, but we couldn't pass up on the other house...even though her house really still felt right. Well...the realtor listing the short sale wasn't on top of things and it fell through. I called Sis. "b" as soon as we found out. It was as if she was waiting for my call. That weekend we wrote up a contract, and here we are, two weeks later. We are scheduled to close in two weeks! God moves in mysterious ways, and I know that he has a hand in everything. We feel so blessed to have found a house that has everything we want. It does need some updating, but it is in great condition.

I will post pics when we get the keys. The house has four bedrooms, 2 1/2 bath, a den, formal living room and formal dining room. It is just under 2000 sq ft. All I can think about is paint colors...even at 2 am when I'm nursing Xavier.
