Kindergarten

It was a long summer.  Swim lessons, trips to the waterpark, and lots of fighting between the boys.  So much fighting that when I said good-bye to Isaiah on his first day of school I was ready for it.  I think he was nervous, he's a boy so he doesn't say much.  His thing is to let out a big breath when he's in an uncomfortable situation, I heard a lot of those.  Since we were at my parents on his first day, we woke him up early so that he could take a shower and get ready.  We left the kids there and drove across town to take him to school.  When the bell rang his teacher came out and gave instructions for them to find their name tag and put it on, say bye to their parents and then sit on the carpet.  He found his tag, pulled me down and whispered "Bye Mom."  Such a big boy!  The first week he said that he played on his own, but now he has lots of friends.

So far he has seemed to enjoy it, but I can't get much out of him.  I have learned that I need to wait until he is ready to share, and that if I really want to know about something I need to wait till he tells Santiago more details.  He has told me that the boy he sits next to on the carpet always talks to him about video games and that he is worried about getting in trouble.  Also one morning on our walk to school he confessed that he got a 1 before.  His teacher uses the 1-2-3 time out system. He wouldn't tell me why he got a one until later that day. Apparently he smacked a kids bum after someone else did it first.  He has also told me that one of his friends watches Sponge Bob, a big no in our house. Bad influences, ha ha!

I have expressed my concern to many other moms that the curriculm in his class is what he already learned in pre-school.  Isaiah has always had an interest in learning new things.  I think that academics is one of his strong points.  When I see them learning things like their basic shapes and letters I get concerned.  He is already reading (when he wants to), and needs to be learning new things.   I thought about possibly moving schools, but I think what would be best for now is asking the teacher to give him more advanced work.  If it comes from her he would probably be more apt to doing it.  Then next year we will hopefully test into the GATE school.  If he doesn't then I will more than likely move him.

Our lives are getting busier!  The kids wake up between 7-7:30, and I have to be up before 7.  I try to iron everyones clothes (except Santiago's) and then jump into the shower when he gets out.  Then I get them dressed and fed, teeth brushed and out the door by 8:05 the latest.  We walk just one block down to the school.  School starts at 8:15, then we walk back home. I eat breakfast and we play until 9:30 when Sam goes down for a nap.  While she sleeps I do one on one with Xavier.  She wakes up and at 11 I make them lunch.  Then we walk to pick Isaiah up at 11:35.  We come home and he eats, they play until 1:30 when she goes back down.  They watch cartoons on Netflix for about a hour, or until when she wakes up.  Then it is homework time, play time some more, dinner time at 5:30 then bed time around 7:30.

Isaiah has soccer practice T/Th evenings from 6-7pm and Santiago is the coach.  So cute!  I  also help out in his class one morning each week which is so nice, and then he has piano lessons which he is loving and doing great!  Our loves are never going to be relaxed again, especially because I want all of our kids to be involed in music and sports.  I am a total soccer mom, and will be for another 15 years or so!
