Que te vaya bien Elder Higginbotham!

Elder Higginbotham

All of the family (except Melanie, Mark and baby Austin) at Devan's farewell.

Saying goodbye at the airport.

Today my little brother Devan flew to Utah, and tomorrow he will be entering the MTC (missionary training center). He was set apart as a full-time missionary last night. He will be at the MTC in Utah for 3 weeks, and then fly out to his mission in Guatemala. He will be at the MTC in Guatemala for 6 weeks. He will be serving a two year mission for our church, teaching the gospel.

Santiago and I are really proud of our little bro'. When we first started dating 6 years ago...Devan was only 13. He didn't like Santiago too much...and once threw the remote control at him out of anger. (we laugh about it now). But now they have grown really close. Since my brothers live hours away...I think that Devan has looked to Santiago as an older brother. Devan talked to him more then he talked to me. Maybe it was all of that male bonding time wasting away hours playing XBOX. (which I'm not to happy about it being passed on to Santiago now that he has left).

Devan has always been a really good kid. (except his attitude sometimes :) ) He was accepted into a Doctors Academy for his four years of high school, and was able to shadow various doctors in Fresno. He played sports throughout high school. He was an Eagle Scout, and graduated valedictorian. He didn't go to high school with anyone from church, and I am honestly suprised by how he kept to his values. His goal is to become a Cardiologist, and I know that he will suceed his dreams. He is going to be a great missionary.

That's so sweet! Cool that you were able to see him off at the airport today. We're already praying for him. I can't imagine what must be going through his head right now.
Santiago, you need to give Ashley instructions on how to cut your hair so you don't have to do it yourself anymore!
