Eva's First Weeks

Bringing home a new baby is always a huge change.  Being that it was my fourth, I wasn't at all anxious about caring for Eva.  What I was dreading though was being up all night.  What we discovered about her was that she would only sleep being swaddled, pooped like crazy, spit up constantly, and only wanted mom.  Middle of the night diaper changes are the worst.  Santiago and I fell into our routine of he changes the diaper and I nurse and bounce back to sleep.  Santiago didn't take much time off of work, and I had a great friend who helped bring Isaiah home from school many days. But when you have other kids life goes on and there are no naps for a tired mommy. I've just adapted to the whole no sleep thing.  Sure, my house was a complete disaster for a few months.  I am not superwoman, nor do I pretend to be.  The hardest thing about having a baby has been juggling everything.  There is not much you can do while holding a newborn who won't stay down for a nap.  I had a very demanding two year old who loved her new sister but wanted all of mom's attention.  Plus making sure dinner was done, laundry, housework, Isaiah's hw and piano, etc, etc. But we got through it!

Before having a baby you make sure you have plenty of sleeping options (bouncer, swing, cradle) for your newborn because each one likes to sleep a certain way. Don't let this picture fool you, Eva is not a fan of the swing.  Our only success was swaddling her and laying her on the bouncer.  That's how she still sleeps.    Look at how tiny she was just a few days after she was born.
I knew we were in a time crunch to get out our yearly Christmas greetings.  It worked out great to combine it with Eva's birth announcement.

Eva has been so loved by day 1.  Her older siblings slobber her with kisses all day.  Sam hugs Eva and tells her that she is her best friend.  She lets everyone know that it's her sister, and not any else's.

I have caught Xavier many times stroking Eva's hair or face and singing her sweet lullabies about how much he loves her.  He shows her off everywhere.

Isaiah has been such a great help with Eva.  He tells me that Eva loves him more than me. He can't get enough of her.
