Since our kitchen was out of order, he picked out sprinkled sugar cookies at the store. He got to be the leader all day, and pick out which lines got to go first for recess and home.
The kids sang a birthday song to him, and he got to pick out a Clifford dog to hold during story time. I am so grateful that he was able to do this, since these things mean so much to kids. Seeing his smile all morning was priceless.
The day before school was out the two kindergarten classes had a BBQ; hot dogs, chips, drinks, and ice cream sandwiches. I was so happy that a dad volunteered to grill all 100 hot dogs.
After their lunch. we headed to the classroom where the teacher called them up to get their certificate of Kindergarten completion. I wish they had an actual graduation, but the kids were still excited to go in front of everyone.
The Saturday after school was out, we went to Santiago's company picnic at the waterpark. I was dreading being in the 105+ heat, but it actually wasn't bad. The kids wanted to stay in the water the whole day, especially Sam. We stuffed ourselves with hot dogs, tri-tip, popcorn, candy, ice-cream and so much more!
Santiago was able to sneak in before it started and get us the perfect spot under some trees. When we were on our way home, I commented to him that the day was just so enjoyable. No melt-downs, relaxing and having fun. Not to mention all of the food. It was the perfect way to kick off the summer.
The weekend before Santiago and I had a date night at Roger Rockas Dinner Theatre. We dropped off the kids at Grandmas, and they had a blast playing outside with their cousins.
We had dinner at the Theatre, and treated ourselves to some yummy appetizers and dessert. The play "Fiddler on the Roof" was really good, and we enjoyed chatting it up with the three other couples who were sitting at our table. They were all retired, and one of the couples were celebrating their 64th wedding anniversary. It was such a fun night, and since we don't go out very often we soaked it all in!
