About dang time!

Santiago and I have not gone on a trip with just each other since before Isaiah was born.  We are talking 6+ years.  Since our kids are not good sleepers, I always felt guilty leaving them with someone.  Not to mention my attachment issues.  Plus the fact that our kids are two years apart.  Doesn't leave much time for a personal vacation.  After I found out I was pregnant this time, I realized it was now or never.  I had reached my limit with my kids.  My patience was long gone, and this momma needed some time away.  Of course Santiago had no objections, since he has been begging me to do this for years.  My mom agreed to watch them for us for a few days, which we are thankful.

It wasn't even hard to say good-bye to them...well except to Sam.  She had the saddest face when we walked out the door.  But of course the whole time I thought about them, thinking how much fun they would have playing on the beach.  But being without the worries and constant supervision of three little ones was so refreshing.

We got to the coast Thursday afternoon and it was so chilly and windy.  Not my kind of weather at all.  We walked around a bit in Cayucos, but decided just to head to our hotel in Pismo.  I was pleasantly surprised with it.  Being on a budget, I tried to find the cleanest, closest to the beach place we could.  We stayed at a hotel that was right on the beach, and super close to the pier.  It was perfect.  We walked around the shops at the Pier, ate dinner at the Splash Café, and then headed to the outlets.

Being pregnant, I was mostly excited about eating on this trip.  Surprisingly though, I never had a big appetite the whole time.  I didn't even want to snack on any goodies at the shops.  That being said, I did apparently stuff myself because I gained a few pounds from it.

I couldn't sleep at all the first night.  Maybe I was nervous about the kids, but I had a horrible headache and had come down with a nasty cough.  I was wide awake at 6:30am. So much for a good nights sleep without the kids!  We walked down to a breakfast joint, and I was disappointed with my meal.  Not worth the price for sure.  Should've just eaten at Denny's.

After we ate breakfast we headed to Morro Bay to go kayaking.  It was the highlight of our trip.

We stopped on a stretch of beach across from Morro Rock.  The sand was so beautiful and warm.  We walked around for a bit, and then jumped back into our kayaks.

We met a little friend as we made our way back.

We walked around Morro Bay and ate lunch, then headed back to Pismo.  We played Frisbee and layed out in the sun.  It was a beautiful day.

Late afternoon we showered and drove to downtown San Luis Obispo.  We watched "Man of Steel" and then caught a late night dinner.  Nachos at 10 pm...so that's where I got those few pounds!

Saturday morning we made our way back home.  I was overly anxious to see the kids.  Absence does make the heart grow fonder.  It was a really nice trip, despite a headache and cough the whole time.  I don't know when we will have this opportunity again with four kids, but hopefully it's not another 6 years!
