Christmas, Part 3

I was nervous for Samantha's first long car ride when we headed up to San Jose Christmas morning. She is not a big fan of her car seat, but thankfully we planned it right and she slept majority of the way. Xavier on the other hand proved to be the difficult traveler. He would cry "Isaiah's looking at me!", or "I want to get out!". Thankfully portable DVD players were around by the time we had kids.

Right now Samantha is the new baby in the family. That will soon change when Santiago's sister has her little boy this year. But for now Sam gets majority of the attention from everyone. Her older girl cousins especially love taking off with her.

Samantha and Tiffany

The younger grand kids with Santiago's parents. Don't you think Tiffany and Xavier look like siblings?
Of course one of my favorite things about getting together with the family is the food. My mother in law makes such great food...I especially love her rice. I made all of the desserts this year. I made my grandma's famous English toffee, gingerbread bars and rice krispies with cranberries and white chocolate.

Xavier and Jonathan

A special visitor came to visit when we were about to open up gifts. That's right, Santa Clause came. He got a little tan after visiting Puerto Rico the night before. I didn't take the kids to see Santa for pictures, so thankfully we were able to snap some on Christmas. Xavier wasn't up for a picture.

We did a cousin exchange this year, and the adults did a white elephant exchange. Of course it was chaos with all the kids opening up presents but so much fun. The boys got helmets from Santiago's parents to go with their bikes. They also got radio control cars and lots of other fun things.
Towards the end of the night I could tell that Xavier wasn't feeling to good. The next day he was miserable and had a fever. The ride home was hard, and so was the rest of the week. It was a bummer to end Christmas that way, especially since they were both so sick the previous year at Christmas. Thats the way things go I guess.
